waste managment: reducing and recycling as alternatives for metals and construction material requirements

There are certain materials that can be recycled on most projects, such as beverage containers, concrete, bricks, asphalt, and metal. Currently, statal regulations governing solid waste do not differentiate between construction and demolition waste and other municipal solid waste, increasing volume in landfills that could be reduced. Recycling metals provides significant benefits such as the reduction of hazardous landfill leachate containing Hg, Cr, As and other metals. Reducing and recycling also could discourage urban mining. A typical case of mining effects on landscape increasing geotechnical risk in urban environments is observed in Bogota Colombia.
