Rapid Deforestation in major cities in Africa a cause of CO2 accumulation to the atmosphere

Deforestation have been a major cause of problem and most specifically CO2 accumulation in major cities across the World. It is more disadvantageous in Africa because the level of environmental awareness is very low, take Lagos Nigeria for example over 15 million people are living there but with less than 4 million trees to help balance the O2 /CO2 content. What that says is that the atmospheric condition in cities is getting more harmful everyday( most especially in African cities) it is important to start looking for ways to plants millions of trees right now so as to sustain the cities for the future.

Maybe the planting of trees should not be limited to stop the threat of desertification. The tree-planting project of nobel prize winner Wangari Maathai could also help tot stop the 'desertification' of the cities.

The idea of planting trees to prevent desertification is most often initiated by privates organizations that work on environmental protection and sustainable development in many countries in Africa, yet this option would work better if there was a real political will of states, so that even at the base level of teaching , each citizen understands that planting a tree revitalize the planet and its components and ensure a good future for him in a healthy city in the furture.

@Maartie Smeets I totally agree with your points but that is if we have more of the likes of Wangari Maathai.
@ ALEM EFOZO NELLY-DIANE, I think alot of private organisations in Africa do not see it as a duty to protect the environment through their social responsibility model. I have once written a proposal to a big telecommunication giant in Nigeria to sponsor a tree planting project that i intend to carry out in major secondary schools in Nigeria, guess what? They did'nt respond to my proposal I had to start in my own little to enlighten the students in some public schools.

that confirm that biggest ambitions or realisations are the idea of one person who has worked and prove that it is possible, then the others will be interested and will join him to accomplish the action. i thinks that it is due to the pessimism
