What do you plan to do for your community?
Are you waiting for government to change your town? what´s your positive action to your environment?

Kasanvu Geoffrey, 7 May 2012What is important now is to educate the community on how productive they can be. Many changes have come not to mention technological advancements which have tremendously changed everything thus the community must get mobilized on the new trend of the world. I am already doing this by mobilizing the Human Resource through a project name; Employment Data Bank (EDB). The concept is put together the Human resource and adding value to it through the Competence Development Program (CDP)
Steve Miller (Moderator) from France, 7 May 2012Although I appreciate all of the comments, I would like to respond one two fronts: 1. Let us try to focus our comments on the theme of this dialogue, namely job creation; and 2. Will a positive attitude or "self-help" strategies single-handedly create new jobs? Is there a role for the public sector and for municipaities to support job creation? (Also, I would like to add a reminder that all postings should be in English in order to ensure full participation. Merci d'avance!) - Also, I would like to learn more abou the Employment Data Bank...does it actually create new jobs?
Peter dunlop from Belgium, 10 May 2012Is job creation the only answer to the quest of productive cities? Think of helping people start their business. For example to teach people to take initiatives and believe their own ideas, to teach them marketing? To not wait until government or institutions do something for you.
I think education in general is important. But also an approach of inspiration instead of regulation.
Max Gerald Guillaume from Dominican Republic, 7 May 2012We need a super revolution in our mind with positive people, we all have a potential in this planet but lack of UNITED, many of us think only about money or join a group to be rich and are blind to the poverty...If daily we can find at least 100 positive people in our community with no money vision but development, it will be a marvellous because you´re solution of your own problem then life will be better in your community!
Max Gerald Guillaume from Dominican Republic, 7 May 2012Together we´re all one, start acting positively yourself then join a group with the same change vision with you!

Max Gerald Guillaume from Dominican Republic, 8 June 2012@Bart, i also speak french then some people could understand a little bit English and have problem to answer then i tried to make ONG GRADI satisfied with his answer. I do understand that it´s a problem if many people comment in different languages in this web site, so we won´t be able to understand each other easily!
Thanks for ur advice!
Diya Gill, 8 May 2012The conversation about job creation in communities is especially interesting for me today - my association is hosting a forum today on Employment Issues and the partnerships municipalities in Ontario are forming in their communities to strenghten the employment opportunities - I will have more to report after our forum.
Steve Miller (Moderator) from France, 8 May 2012I would love to hear more about your Forum and we look forward to hearing from you on community-based employment programmes. I am also pleased to see the focus taken in this topic on job creation.
Diya Gill, 10 May 2012Thank you for the interest. It was a very successful forum that discussed integrated employment strategies in Ontario's municipalities. Some of the issues included the need for and how Ontario's municipalities are partnering with local businesses and economic development departments to increase a community's capacity; how they are facilitating partnerships of community organizations to achieve a common aim; and their strategies for serving vulnerable populations...
Ontario municipalities already have robust local job creation strategies - but with our Social Assistance Program under review by an appointed commission, job creation and employment strategies are of even greater importance in Ontario than before.
Ojo Musiliu Adebayo, 8 May 2012I will like to assist my fellow community and make a brighter future for our community and render assistance in terms of there needs.
Max Gerald Guillaume from Dominican Republic, 13 May 2012That´s good to know @Ojo, do you start acting positively in your community? is your action benefit for you or your community? do you look for how to create jobs?
Diya Gill, 10 May 2012Re the question about what municipalities can do towards job creation strategies: Ontario (Canada) municipalities are playing a very strong role in facilitating leadership in their communities. We recently heard from three municipalities at our own forum on their work in community capacity building - they see themselves as facilitators of community leadership. In their words, they 'lead, follow, and walk with' their community partners in an effort to build strong integrated networks of community partners that support people seeking social assistance. Issues of trust, territoriality and the need for leadership arise constantly...
Municipalities are also working to bring economic development departments and local businesses into this network - here to, they have demonstrated the need for a strong economic base to help support the community as well as the vulnerable individual.
Of course, situations are different in developed countries such as Canada, but the strategies are transferable and customizable to local environments.
